Charles H. Buck" Wallace, Jr.

WALLACE, Charles H. "Buck" Jr., 87, of Farmville, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 28, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Goldie L. Wallace; one daughter, Wanda W. Durham and husband, William F., of Tappahannock, Va.; one son, D. Wayne Wallace and wife, Carol; one grandson, Joshua Blake Wallace; one stepgrandson, Clayton Jamerson of Rice, Va.; and one brother, Thomas A. Wallace of Lexington, Va. Mr. Wallace was a WWII veteran. He entered the Army Air Forces on October 17, 1942 and served as a member of the Third Bombardment Group. As a B-17 Flying Fortress co-pilot, his air unit was assigned to cripple Nazi war centers and military targets in support of the Allied ground forces. He flew 35 missions and was awarded three battle stars for Normandy, Rhineland and Northern France. Upon returning home, he served for 31 years as a member of the Virginia State Police as a trooper and first sergeant in Divisions One and Three. In addition to being a loving and caring husband and father, Buck was an active member of Farmville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Remains rest at Puckett Funeral Home, 115 Covington Court, Farmville, Va., where family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009, with interment in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Farmville Baptist Church, 132 North Main Street, Farmville, Va. 23901.
