Charlie Warren Green, Jr.

Mr. Charlie Warren Green, Jr., 65 of Farmville passed away Monday morning in Farmville. He was born March 18, 1945 in Petersburg, Virginia. He was the son of Charlie W. Green and Blanche Spencer Green. He served his country in the United States Army on Active Duty, 1968 1974; United States Army Reserve, 1974-1998 when he retired as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a Vietnam Veteran.
He earned many Awards/Decorations including; Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Army Commendation Medal (5 awards), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2 awards) and Several Vietnam campaign medals/ribbons.
Warren received his education at several institutes of higher learning, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. where he received his Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Public Management and Governmental Relations, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Va., where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, University of Oklahoma: Economic Development Institute, Norman, Okla. Where he wrote his Thesis: Shell Building Experiences of Eleven Rural Virginia Communities: 1979 1990. Published in the fall 1991 issue of Economic Development Review magazine and he was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute: Virginia Economic Development Institute, University of North Carolina: Basic Economic Development Course and Virginia Commonwealth University: Commonwealth Management Institute. Professionally Mr. Green had many accomplishments and served his community in many ways including Industrial Real Estate Director: The Hollingsworth Companies, Prince George, Va., 1997 Present, Vice President & General Manager, Tri-Boro Shelving and Partition Corp., Dillwyn, Va., 1995-1997, Manager, Regional Services/Economic Development Consultant, Governors Office, 1985-1995, Logistics Management Specialist, United States Army Logistics Center, Ft. Lee, Va., 1984-1985, Chief, Bureau of Market and Economic Development, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, 1976-1984, Sales & Marketing Consultant, Roadway Express and Thurston Motor Lines, 1974-1976 and United States Army Transportation Officer, Active Duty, 1968-1974. He served as Executive Director and Board Member for many different organizations; Executive Director: Southside Virginia Development Authority (Gubernatorial appointment), 3 years, Executive Director: Southside Virginia Marketing Council, 4 years, Ex Officio Member: A. L. Philpott Southside Economic Development Commission, 6 years, Board Member: Virginias Heartland Partnership, 4 years, Board Member: Virginias Gateway Region, Prince George County Representative, 5 years, Adjunct Faculty: Southside Virginia Community College, Board Member: Longwood College Center for Economic Education, 5 years, Board Member: Southside Virginia Community College Center for Economic Development, 6 years, Board Member: Region 2000 (Central Virginia), Existing Business Alliance, 7 years, Board Member: Danville Community College Center for Business, Industry and Government, 6 years. He was also a long time member of Farmville United Methodist Church, Farmville United Methodist Men and a member of the Prince Edward County Economic Development Community Planning Group.
He is survived by his wife, Myra Jones Green, his daughter, Elizabeth Pryor Green of Richmond and sister, Nancy Green Hood and husband, Alan of Powhatan.
Warren never met a stranger or anyone's company he didn't enjoy. He was a kind and generous man, not only with those he loved, but with everyone. He was an avid Hokie football fan, as well as a wonderful father and husband.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2010 2 p.m. at Farmville United Methodist Church. A private graveside with military honors will be held earlier on Thursday. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening 6 - 8 p.m. at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Edward County Volunteer Rescue Squad or to Farmville United Methodist Church.
