Col William Wofford Thompson

Col. William Wofford Thompson, USAF (Retired), died Tuesday, February 10, 2015. He was born May 8, 1931, in Augusta, Georgia, the son of Wofford E. and Katie M. Thompson. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and served in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. He was the recipient of the Legion of Merit Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Col. Thompson is survived by his wife, Martha Alice Wilson Thompson; a son, William W. Thompson Jr. and wife, Frances of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter, Elizabeth T. Carter and husband, Earl of Farmville; five grandchildren, Abraham E. Thompson, Morgan P. Thompson, Nathaniel W. Carter and fiancé, Suncica Vilic, Martha C. Hilton and husband, John, and Rachel B. Carter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 13, at Puckett Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery on Saturday, February 14 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 87, Farmville, VA 23901 or a charity of your choice.
