Daniel Brafman Phillips

Daniel Brafman Phillips, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Born in Gloucester County, Virginia, in 1929, he is preceded in death by his parents Thelma Lucille and John Herbert Phillips, and siblings John Phillips, Herbert Phillips, and Mary Anna Lenning. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Jean L. Phillips, and four children: Randal Phillips (Rita), Danny Phillips (Celeste), Karen P. Montgomery (Stan), and Mary Beth P. Echeverria (Dr. Roy); by nine grandchildren: Jeff Phillips (Beth), Todd Knight, Katie P. Burns (Alan), Adam B. Phillips (Amanda), Maddie Phillips, Izzy P. Hayes (Lane), Amy M. Scott (Taylor), J. Blessing, and Nick Blessing; and three great-grand children, Aiden, Liam, and Emmett.In addition, he is survived by sisters Katie Ryder, Ruby Hawkins, Francis Misenheimer, and Patty Phillips; brothers Edward Phillips, Walter Phillips, and Dempsey Phillips. Big “D”, as he was known to many, was a jack of all trades, and he was called upon often by family and friends to solve their automotive, electrical or plumbing problems. He retired from Virginia Dominion Resources formerly known as VEPCO after 42 years of service and enjoyed working for the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s office as a Bailiff for several years. Mr. Phillips was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church, member of the American Legion, and was a church deacon. He was a long-time member of the Farmville Lions Club where he took much pleasure in being the Tail Twister. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing golf and cards, and using Skype and Facebook to keep up with family and friends. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
