Edward Allen Weinberg, 69, of Richmond, formerly of Farmville, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 after a brief illness with cancer. He was born to Dave and Marguerite Glenn Weinberg on December 4, 1940 in Farmville. He graduated from Farmville High School in 1959, and attended the University of Virginia School of Architecture from 1959-1963. He worked for the Piedmont Planning Commission, the Baltimore Planning Commission, and for several years in retail, in the Weinberg family businesses in Farmville and Baltimore.\r\n
He is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his companion of 38 years, Ernest Buddy Suerken of Richmond; his sister, Rita Weinberg Lawhorne and husband, Ronnie; nephew David Allen Lawhorne; a niece, Judy L. Ellington and husband Johnny; two great nephews, Trey and Jason Ellington all of Farmville; and many cousins, locally Tom and Katrena Young and Danny Glenn; and a special friend, Dorothy Royal of Richmond.\r\n
He was a lifelong member of the Farmville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Smithsonian Institution. Edward Allen treasured his family and friends. He was a true gentleman. He enjoyed meeting people and sharing life stories with everyone he met. He loved a good joke and always told a good story with a twinkle in his eye. He also had the gift of being a very good listener. He genuinely cared about people and remembered the little details about them. He was a bright, generous, kind-hearted man. Uncle Ed, as he was fondly known by many, will be greatly missed.\r\n
