Elizabeth Asal Newman

Mrs. Elizabeth Asal Newman, 93 of Cumberland passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009. She was born September 8, 1915 in Cumberland. She was the daughter of the late Phillip Jacob and Elizabeth Brinkley Asal. She was the widow of W. C. Newman.
She is survived by her children, William Newman and wife, Frieda of Farmville, Jacob Newman and wife, Betty and Jean Ownby and husband, David all of Cumberland; her sister, Louise Bethel of Cumberland; grandchildren, Kimberly White and husband Cliff, William Paul Newman and wife, Sue, Benjamin E. Newman, Jacob Newman, Jr., Daryl Newman and Dawn Hinds and husband Edward; her stepsons, Michael Sutton and Zack Baldridge, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Sunday, March 29, 2009 3:00PM at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church with interment in Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 164, Cumberland, VA 23040.
