Eloise Wood Tucker

April 8, 1921 — December 28, 2014

Eloise Wood Tucker passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2014. She was born in Lunenburg County on April 8, 1921, to the late Rufus Augusta and Anna Belle Coley Wood. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 35 years, Jackie D. Tucker, her parents, her sister, Kathleen W. Baldwin, and her brother, Rufus Milton Wood. Mrs. Tucker is survived by her children, Maryanna Tucker Myers of Hopewell, Jacqueline Tucker Hill (Ron) of Lynchburg, Steven Wood Tucker (Suzy) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Kathleen Tucker Springfield of Midlothian. Her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews brought much joy and happiness to her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Marjorie W. Snapp of Richmond and Jean W. Reams of Amelia. Eloise and Jackie D. moved to Farmville in 1951 from Roanoke and joined the Farmville Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. She was a Charter member of Robert Morris Chapter #150 of the Order of Eastern Star, where she was proud to recently receive her 60-year membership pin. She enjoyed playing in several local bridge clubs, was a former member of the American Rose Society and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Many will remember Eloise for her love for little children and from her years as a teacher at the Little Red School House and her in-home nursery school. As the Property Manager of Windsor Heights Apartments, she provided support to many moving to the community and developed lifelong friendships. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 2:00 pm, at the Farmville Baptist Church with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens. She will be honored with an Eastern Star Service. The family will visit with friends and family one hour before the funeral in the Church Parlor. Memorial contributions can be made to the Farmville Baptist Church.
