Obituary for Frances Elsie Dowdy Fulcher
Frances Elsie Dowdy Fulcher, 89 of Farmville passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. She was born on January 15, 1924 to the late Annie Singleton Dowdy and Charles Hamilton Dowdy Sr. She graduated from Farmville High school and then attended Longwood State Teachers College now Longwood University. She was married to Thomas J. Fulcher Jr. in 1946 and had 2 children. She was a devoted member of Farmville Presbyterian Church and was active as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, youth director and a recipient of the life time award for “Women of Church”. She was an active den mother for the cub scouts for many years, a member of the Jr. Woman’s club and a long time member of the Nora Lancaster Garden Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, flower arranging traveling, gardening and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 67 years T.J. Fulcher Jr., a son; Thomas J. Fulcher III (Gayle) of Chesapeake, VA, a daughter; Sara Elizabeth Fulcher Keen (Mark) of Garner, NC, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, her sister; Inez Simpson and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Otha C. Dowdy, Charlie H. Dowdy, Willie W. Dowdy, Rankin D. Dowdy and 5 sisters; Louise D. Glen, Bessie D. Pulliam, Ruby D. Gordon, Annie D. Burger and Vernelle D. Betko. Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22, 2013 6:00-8:00PM at Puckett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 11:00AM at the Farmville Presbyterian Church with interment to follow in Westview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Farmville Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
