Hildred Ruble Gobble

Mrs. Hildred Ruble Hendrix Gobble, 99, of Farmville, VA died December 09, 2013. She was born in Carter County, TN on March 30, 1914, a daughter of the late John Seahorn Hendrix and Bernice Smalling Hendrix. Mrs. Gobble was a descendant of the First Families of The State of Franklin. She was educated at East Tennessee State Teachers College, presently East Tennessee State University, and briefly taught school in Carter County prior to commencing a 40 year career with the telephone company. She retired from Bell Telephone Company in 1978 and became a member of the Telephone Pioneers retiree organization. Mrs. Gobble was a lifelong Methodist who started her walk in faith at Watauga Point United Methodist Church, near Elizabethton, TN. She served the church in many capacities; including Secretary of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service (United Methodist Women) and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Wesley Foundation at Longwood University in Farmville, VA. She was a former member of the Farmville chapter of the Virginia Federation of Woman’s Clubs, where she served as chairwoman of the Conservation Committee. She was passionate about forest conservation and authored a text for tree planting ceremonies. Mrs. Gobble was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Tate Gobble, of Grainger County, TN, in 1982, her brother Robert Taylor Hendrix, of Carter County, TN in 1958, and sisters, Louise H. Campbell, of Telford, TN, in 1991, and Love H. Haynes formerly of Carter County, TN in 2010. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Andrea G. and Charles Buddy Bolding of Farmville, VA, three grandchildren, Lauren B. and husband Joshua Lee Rademaker of Richmond, VA, Suzanne Tate Bolding, of Farmville, VA, and Charles Bradshaw and wife Dana Parker Bolding, of Roanoke, VA, and two great grandchildren, Charles Parker Bolding, and Sage Lee Rademaker. Other survivors include four nieces and eight nephews. A graveside service at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Grainger County, TN will be private.
