Obituary for Hugh Joseph Nixon
Nixon, Hugh Joseph, 89, of Farmville, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2014 . He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Paul (Tommy) Nixon, parents, Joseph and Edith Nixon, sisters, Edith Morgan and Betty Javick. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Willye Webb Nixon; and children: Joseph Robert (Joe) Nixon and wife, Bev; James Henry (Jimmy) Nixon; Ann Marie Howard and husband, Jeff; Gerald Richard (Jerry) Nixon and wife, Marty; Robert Doyle (Bob) Nixon and wife, Susan; and John Robert (John R) Nixon and wife, Von; and siblings, Joseph (Joe) Nixon and wife, Margaret, Monica Kenny, John Nixon (Jack), Robert (Bob) Nixon and wife, Eddie, Joan Guinane and husband, Tom, and numerous nieces and nephews. “Nix” is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was born in Wilkes Barrow, Pennsylvania. He fought in WWII while serving as an engineer in the United States Army. He was introduced to his bride at Camp Pickett while attending a USO dance. After moving to Farmville, he served as a police officer for the Town of Farmville for 8 years and then on Grand Jury for fifteen years. Mr. Nixon was a Metropolitan Life insurance agent until retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Farmville Moose Lodge and VFW and he laid the cornerstone for St. Theresa Catholic Church in 1949.
