Obituary for James Henry Whitehead
James Henry Whitehead, 85, of Darlington Heights entered the gates of Heaven on April 5, 2018. He was born in the Darlington Heights Community, at home on August 1, 1932. He was one of two children born to the late Richard and Irene Woodall Whitehead. He was proceeded in death by his dear wife, Martha.

James Henry Whitehead married Martha Fowler Whitehead on December 25, 1951. From this union were born 2 children, Janet Whitehead Magruder (Buster) of Darlington Heights and James Dale Whitehead (Carol) of Franklin, TN. He had 3 grandchildren - Angela Robinson Camp (Tom), Brock Robinson (Ashley) and Anna Whitehead; 9 great-grandchildren - Trevor, Jalynn, Caleb and Brooklynn Camp; Auden, Kamri, Haven and Elliot James Robinson; Rhoda Whitehead Karubian.

In Jim’s early years, he served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict for 2 years. He later worked for Babcock & Wilcox in Lynchburg as a welder and shift foreman for 25 years. Jim was a member of the Southside Masonic Lodge 191 for 50+ years. He was also a lifelong member of Spring Creek Baptist Church where he wore many hats and served on various committees from deacon, choir member, Sunday School teacher to stew master. He was inspirational in working with the Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, the regional American Red Cross and numerous mission trips for disaster relief.

Jim had many passions such as hunting, fishing, bee keeping, cooking, gardening and farming but he was best known for being a jack of all trades. There was very little that he could not fix. From radios to farm equipment to stew. He was good at almost everything he attempted. Jim shared most of his adventures with his beloved brother and best friend, Larry Dean Whitehead.

The family would like to thank the Darlington Heights community for all of the love and support during Jim’s final days on earth. He certainly loved his family, friends, community, church and most of all God.

Donations can be made in his memory to the Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department and the Spring Creek Baptist Church music department.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 2:00PM at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 1:00PM until time of service.
