Jean Cunningham Wilson

Jean C. Wilson of Farmville, VA passed away peacefully on August 21, 2015. She was 86 years old.

Jean Alice Cunningham was born in Washington, D.C., on March 27, 1929, to Norman Jay and Edith M. Cunningham. She had an older brother, Norman, Jr. She attended State Teacher’s College in Farmville and married John D. Wilson, a native of Rice, VA in 1950. Jean worked in the bookkeeping department at the college beginning in 1950 and acquired the position of Director of Employee Relations at Longwood College by the time of her retirement in 1988. She and John were married for 61 years at the time of his passing in 2012. The couple had no children. Upon the death of her husband, Jean assumed John’s position as principle owner and president of Colonial Broadcasting Company Incorporated of Farmville, which includes WFLO AM and WFLO FM radio stations. Mrs Wilson is predeceased by her parents and brother. She is survived by her brothers-in-law, Ret. Army Lt. General Samuel V. Wilson, President Emeritus at Hampden-Sydney College, (wife Susie) and Dr. James B. Wilson, both of Rice, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs Wilson loved to travel and saw much of the world during her lifetime. She archived her travels in both photography and film, which she enjoyed sharing with her friends and family. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Farmville Womans Club. Both she and her husband were very active in their church for many years. She loved and was loved by her family.

A time for visition and fellowship with friends and family will be at 1:00PM Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Farmville Presbyterian Church, where a 2:00PM memorial service will follow. A committal service will be held at Jamestown Presbyterian Church in Rice after the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Farmville Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
