Jesse William Grant, 60 passed away at his home last week. He was born November 21, 1958. His love, friendship, generosity, and hard work will live on beyond his physical presence. As a co-owner of Grant’s Glass and a master craftsman, Jesse took pride in his work, and was always intrigued by a challenge. A loyal friend, Jesse never met a stranger, finding common ground and new stories to tell. He had more good friends than he had shirts with sleeves. Jesse never shied from new experiences and new places, but preferred ones with sand, water, good food, and cold beer. He was a thespian, a poet, an amateur archeologist, a music lover, a collector, a sports fan, a storyteller, a reveler, a kind soul, a confidant, and so much more.
Jesse loved his family, and was proudest of his children Ben and Melissa. He cherished his grandchildren, Garrett, Wyatt, Evangeline, Ruby, and Oliver, who will continue to treasure him and carry on his legacy. He was truly “Uncle Jesse” to 25 nieces and nephews, who he adored. Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Homer Grant, and his brother Stewart David Grant. Jesse is survived by his mother, Joyce Neas Grant; his wife Brenda McAbee Grant; his daughter, Melissa Grant Zehner and her husband Michael; his son Benjamin Givens Giles and his wife Elizabeth; and siblings Franklin Grant, Thomas Grant, and Barbara Grant Eanes. He left us too early, but will be forever loved and forever remembered.
Family visitation will be held at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Southside SPCA, in honor of his beloved dog Butterscotch, or Friends of the Appomattox River, in honor of his love of the float.
