Margaret Harris Bradner

November 14, 1916 — February 18, 2010

Margaret Harris Bradner of Roanoke, formerly of Charlotte Court House, died February 18, 2010, at the age of 93. She was a daughter of the late Beveridge Sands and Edna Massey Harris. She was predeceased by her sisters, Anne and Shirley and her brother, Edward Harris all of Richmond; and her sisters-in-law, Orpha S. Harris and Susie B. Vassar.
She was married for over 66 years to J.W. Billy Bradner who died in 2007. They moved from Richmond to Charlotte C.H. in 1949 and were loyal members of Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church, where she was the pianist and organist for many years. She also served in the capacities of vice mayor and acting mayor of C.C.H.
A graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, she was president of the class of 1937. Professionally, she was Superintendent of the Charlotte County Dept. of Social Services for many years.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Bradner of Roanoke, and Shirley Ingram and husband, Joe, with whom she lived at the time of her death. Her grandchildren, Margaret McConnell of Charleston, S.C. and Molly Aftoora and husband, Matt of Richmond; great granddaughter, Maggie McConnell of Charleston; nieces and nephews, Margaret Smith and Susan Harris, Phyllis Karhatsu and husband Johani and Brad Vassar.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 21, 2010 2:30PM at Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church with interment in Evergreen Cemetery in C.C.H. Family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the services. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church Roof Fund, 174 Thomas Jefferson Highway, Charlotte Court House, VA 23923 or a charity of your choice. Puckett Funeral Home of Farmville is in charge of arrangements.
