Mary Dowdy Davis

February 8, 1936 — February 6, 2019

Mary Jane was born at home on Feb 8, 1936 to the late Walter B. and Fannie Mae Dowdy. She was the second oldest girl in a family of 8 boys and three girls. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, Ernest C. “Bud” Davis on Jan 19, 2019. She is survived by three siblings; sister Ann Dowdy O’Daly of Rowland Heights, California, niece Laura Creason and nephew Steve Dutton, sister Agnes Dowdy Rowe of Cumberland, VA, nieces Debbie Brown and Donna Dickinson, nephew John Rowe, brother J. Richard Dowdy of Cumberland, VA and niece Beatrice Jane Sumney .
She worked as a secretary at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia in Richmond for 21 years and later as a receptionist at Southside Community Hospital for 15 years. She enjoyed her little dogs; Tippy and Spike, cooking, gardening, reading, playing her organ and spending time with friends and family.
Mary Jane went to be with her heavenly family on Feb 6, 2019. Her kindness, generosity and playful spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
We take comfort in one of her favorite Bible verses:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
To our beloved sister, aunt and friend, Mary Jane; “May you Walk (with the angels), Run (like a deer) and Soar (like an eagle) in Heaven until we meet again someday!”
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 3:00PM in Guinea Presbyterian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary Cemetery Assoc
