Mary Virginia Southall

November 9, 1941 — April 28, 2014

Mary Virginia Southall passed away on Monday morning, April 28th, 2014. She was born on November the 9th, 1941 to Evelyn and David Merritt from Jetersville, Virginia. She married Bernard Noland/Peter Southall from Worsham, Virginia in 1960. They were married almost 41 years until Peter’s death on November 22, 2000. Peter and Mary Virginia had 3 children, Donna Neese (Homer) from Amelia, Virginia; Mark Southall (Tammy) from Worsham, Virginia and Janet Southall from Worsham, Virginia. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mom was a wonderful seamstress and loved to cook for everyone. In her earlier years you could find all of them raising large gardens, laughing under the maple tree and complaining about how hot the summer was and all the work they had placed on themselves. Like all the working squirrels in the summer, everyone was so happy when “Old Man Winter” came around for all their hard work and dedication to their family. Her daughter, Janet Southall was a wonderful caregiver and stayed by mom’s side through these difficult last months of her life. Tammy Southall, Marks wife looked at mom as a second mother and cared for her very deeply. She was instrumental in keeping everything together and helping mom and Janet with every daily task that needed attention. Donna Neese would help with mom on weekends when she could and visited often. She was always just a phone call away. Peggy Dinelli, moms loving sister- in- law stayed very close to Mom and they would talk for hours on the phone. They would both say the other one would not hang up and that is why the conversations went on for so long. It always made me laugh a little to hear each of them tell their version of the story. True friends and family to the end. Her loving brothers, Steve Merritt from Atlanta Georgia, his wife Pam and Wayne Merritt from Jetersville were by her side only hours before her death. The family was very close all of their lives and nothing changed right to the end. She loved her brothers deeply and kept in touch constantly. Moms pride and joy were all the grandchildren she had been blessed with in her life. Grandchildren: Bobby Joe Bush, Tabitha Lynn Inman, Charles David Southall, Makayla Littleton, Ray Littleton, Crystal Neese and Skyler Wilding Great Grandchildren: Brianna Nicole Bush, Natalie Inman , K.J. Inman, Penelope Southall and Peter Southall. Mom cared for her Great Grand Daughter Brianna Bush for the past 13 years and loved her dearly. Brianna loved her grandmother and will miss her greatly. The other grandchildren will miss their grandmother immensely and were very lucky to have this lady in their lives even if only for a short while. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Arrangements by Puckett Funeral Home. We will miss you dearly mom, thanks for everything that you did for us in your life! I know that I am a better man today because of you. Rest well, Your loving son. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00AM in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
