Paul Oliver Layne

Paul Oliver Layne age 89 of Cullen VA passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. He was born in Cullen VA on July 31, 1925. He was the son of Spencer H. Layne Sr. and Marion C. Allen. Oliver was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon and trustee for many years. He was an Army veteran who served in WWII and retired from General Electric in Lynchburg, VA. He was an active and long time member of the Pamplin Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his two daughters; Betty L. Finny of Axton, VA and Judy Layne of Key West, FL, five brothers; Floyd Layne (Agnes) of Mill Hall, PA, Billy Layne of Victoria, VA, Fred Layne (Georgia) of Farmville, VA, Norman Layne (Ida) of Cullen, VA and Nelson Layne of Dillwyn, VA; four sisters; Virginia Frangowlakis of Salem, VA, Ruth Ferguson of Farmville, VA, Roberta Willis (Charlie) of St Paul, VA and Gloria Adams (Kendall) of Cullen, VA, numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family members. Also two dedicated caregivers, Stacy Courts and Debra Simpkins, and his best friends; John Adams and Larry Whitehead for their many acts of kindness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn S. Layne, six brothers; Spencer H. Layne Jr., Alvan Layne, Elbert Layne, Carol Layne, Ed Layne and Monroe Layne and one sister, Florence L. Pierce. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 2:00PM at Spring Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Puckett Funeral Home from 6:00PM – 8:00PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cullen Volunteer Fire Dept or American Cancer Society.
