Richard Carl Mathews

March 27, 1962 — November 9, 2013

Richard Carl Mathews, 51 went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2013 after a short, hard fight with cancer. He was born March 27, 1962 in Chesterfield Co. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Ida Mathews and Richard and Pearl Baird. He is survived by one son, Damon Gilbert Mathews (Heather), a loving ex-wife Susan Q. Mathews of Palmyra, his parents, Jimmy and Ellen Mathews of Amelia, his grandchildren Lila Patricia and Casper Rayne; two sisters, Diane Pharr (Randy) of Clarksville and Larese Johnson (Bill) of Chesterfield, three brothers, James E. Mathews Jr. (Nancy) of Maidens, Walter Andrew Mathews (Sandy) of Clermont, FL and Daniel Mathews (Kim) of Powhatan and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and numerous special friends. Richard never met a stranger. He loved his place in Cumberland Co. and his beloved dog, Casey. He was a construction supervisor for several Virginia businesses and currently was working at Lowe’s. If you ever heard his voice before you saw him, you would be expecting a large man; instead you would see a wirery smiling man that is probably still your friend. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 11:00am at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Farmville with interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice. Family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2013 4:00-8:00pm and Tuesday, November 12, 4:00-8:00pm at Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Puckett Funeral Home is serving the family. www.puckettfh.com.
