Samuel “Sam” Harvey Kiger, 74 of Pamplin, Virginia, passed away peacefully with his loving wife Elizabeth Kiger by his side on Thursday March 16, 2023.
Born in Maryland to James Harvey Kiger and Ardeth Maxine Cutlip Kiger, Sam served his country in the U.S. Navy. He lived and worked in Baltimore, Maryland before retiring to the farm in Pamplin, VA.
Sam most enjoyed the time he spent in Virginia observing the wildlife and creating new recipes in the kitchen. His grandchildren could often count on a pot of crab soup to be waiting for them each time they visited the farm. Sam was known for his colorful storytelling and comedic timing; nearby drivers sometimes fell victim to his favorite zinger to go “blow it.” Sam was an avid Football fan, whose entire fantasy team consisted of Baltimore Ravens players, but his favorite events to watch were those of his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Kiger; his children Kevin Kiger and Jamie Jones; his daughter-in-law Pamela Kiger; his grandchildren Ryan Kiger, Kaitlyn Pritchard, Tyler Pritchard, Nathan Kiger, Hailey Jones, and Leah Jones; and his siblings Sandra Mannion and Randie Kiger.
