Sergeant Major Ken Randolph Lamon, Jr.

Sergeant Major Ken Randolph LaMon, Jr., 43 of Rice passed away suddenly Tuesday morning in Farmville. He was born April 7, 1966 in Louisiana. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry and Pat Golden. Ken was married to Tanya Jolene LaMon in October of 1991. A Recruiter, An Infantryman, An Artilleryman, A Warrior, A Leader. Ken served in the United States Marine Corps from June 19, 1984 June 18, 1988. While in the Marines he earned the USMC Meritorious Mast, USMC Good Conduct Medal and the USMC Meritorious Unit Commendation. He then served in the United States Army Virginia Army National Guard from May 3, 1996 July 14, 2009. He was deployed Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan from May 5, 2004 April 30, 2005. While in the Army he earned many medals and awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and numerous other awards and achievements. He loved the Lord and was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church. Ken cherished spending time with his family. He loved all things outdoors, including hunting, fishing and golfing. Ken was very much a green thumb and enjoyed caring for his lawn.
He is survived by his wife, Tanya, his daughters, Adama Nicole LaMon of Richmond, Jordan Elizabeth and Brittney Ann LaMon both of Rice, his father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Pat Beard of Prospect, VA; his sisters, Tammy and Linda of Florida, his uncle, Eddie McLeod and wife, Donna of Florida, his cousin, Stephanie Diaz and husband Lt. Adam Diaz of Washington D.C., his Grandma, Bea Watson of Stonington, Illinois, his sister-in-law, Julie Maxie and husband Gene of Farmville and their children, Derrick Maxie of Champaign, Illinois and Joseph Maxie of Farmville; his brothers-in-law, Dennis, Danda and Drew Beard all of Champaign, Illinois, Jeff Beard and wife, Lisa and their son, Garret all of Powhatan and Daniel Guest and wife Jennifer also of Powhatan, VA.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 17, 2009 11:00AM at Pisgah Baptist Church in Rice with interment in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00-8:00PM at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
