Virginia Page Burnette Johnson

Page B. Johnson, 89 of Farmville, VA went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 22, 2018. She was born on October 11, 1928 in Cumberland County. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John H. Johnson, parents, William and Belle Burnette, her sister, Ann B. Younger and a son-in-law, Dale L. Bolt. Mrs. Johnson was valedictorian of her graduating class at Cumberland County High School. She also was a graduate of Longwood College in 1950, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with top honors. She began her teaching career at the high school level, then made a change to opening a kindergarten school in her home where she impacted the lives of many young people. She later made the transition to teaching kindergarten at Prince Edward Academy, finishing her career at Fuqua School. Music played a vital role in her life from a very young age, from duets with her sister to accompanying singers in various locations to teaching piano students for decades. Her love of music transcended generations, bringing smiles and cheers to many listeners. Her faith in the Lord was evident by the roles she accepted as pianist, Sunday school teacher and vacation bible school music director at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her love of reading and rhyming was never more apparent than in her published book, “A Smile up My Sleeve”. Her friends, family and church members reaped the rewards of her many letters, poems, and comics that she mailed over the years. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Judy Bolt, Kay Baber and Helen Harford; son-in-law, Andy Baber; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Trae), Chris Bolt (Alexa Moser), Jacqueline Alward (Tyler), Carol Frazier (Kevin) and John Baber(Lacey); great grandchildren, Tristan, Zach and Conner Alward, David, Isaac and Julie Frazier, Jesse Baber and Thomas Jones; brother-in-law, Robert C. Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 1-3PM at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A funeral service with interment will immediately follow. A reception will also be held in the church fellowship hall.
