William Danny Andrews

August 14, 1949 — July 17, 2019

William Danny Andrews, 69, of Farmville passed away at home on July 17, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy; his daughters Annie Minix, Liz, Lauren McCarty (Matt), and Meghan Orr (Rob); Lee Minix; his grandsons James and Sam Minix and Carter McCarty; his brother, Andy (Diane); his sister-in-law, Betsy Cochran; his brother-in-law, Monty Hargrove (Ashley); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester E. and Frances P. Andrews, as well as his grandson, TJ.
Danny was born August 14, 1949, in Farmville and attended Prince Edward Academy. He was a proud graduate of St. Christopher School and the Virginia Military Institute. He worked his entire career at his family’s construction firm, Andrews, Large, and Whidden, alongside his father and brother. He enjoyed spending time at the beach (and outdoors in general), but mostly he loved coaching his girls and their friends in FAA softball and that the kids from the neighborhood made his house (and his yard) their own. When his sons-in-law and his grandsons came along, he relished the transition from being outnumbered by girls to being surrounded by boys. He was always happiest in the presence of family, friends, and laughter.
A private graveside service was held at Westview Cemetery on Friday, July 19th. A memorial service in thanksgiving for the life of Danny was held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 2PM at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville.
The family wishes to thank the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff members at the University of Virginia Medical Center, especially the UVA lung transplant team, as well as the devoted staff of Centra Hospice. Contributions in memory of Danny may be made to your favorite charity.
