Alta "Ruth" Asal Southall

Alta Ruth Asal Southall, 100 of Cumberland County., passed away on May 25, 2019. At the time of her death she resided at The Woodland in Farmville, VA. She was born on March 18, 1919 to Wiley and Lola Horton in Carroll County, VA.

She is survived by 5 children, Otis, Ruth Wright (Virgil), Johnny, Wilbur (Sandra), Carolyn Lester and daughter-in-law Faye Asal. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren, 3 great-great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Phillip Daniel Asal and her husband Charles Southall of 3 years, her son, Joe Asal, two daughters-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Asal, two brothers, Ray and James Horton, two sisters Gladys Patterson and Mamie Leonard and her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was retired from Craddock and Terry Shoe Co. She and her husband Phillip were parents to several foster boys. She was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. She spent much of her time quilting and certainly enjoyed her flowers and vegetable gardens. There was always ample fruits and vegetables canned for family and friends. It was also a great pleasure to share her flowers with anyone that shared her interests.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 11:00am at Antioch United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
