Anne Lee Newcomb Varner

Anne Lee Newcomb Varner, 89, of Farmville, VA passed away on January 5, 2020 at the home of her son in Farmville. She was born in Charlotte County, VA on February 1, 1930 to the late Callie Owen and Marion Dell Newcomb. She was married to the late Lawrence Cary Varner and together they raised 6 children.
She is survived by her daughters Carrie Dell Varner and Aurelia Catherine Dunn (Kenneth) and her two sons Dr. Lawrence Callie Varner (Linda) and Edward Longest Varner (Catherine), all of Farmville. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Clint Baldwin, Joanna Quinn, Gaul Varner, Jonathan Dunn, Lydia Garrett, Thomas Varner, Joseph Varner, John-Marshall Varner, Scarlett Varner-Heslip, Brian Varner, and Cary Varner. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, one daughter, Carolyn Varner Baldwin, and one son Harold Joseph Varner.
She is survived by her brother, Callie Hagood Newcomb of Farmville. She was predeceased by her siblings Aubrey Newcomb, Ruth Wade, Edward Newcomb, Bernice Newcomb and Agnes (Nell) Francis.
Anne was a devoted and loving wife and loving mother/grandmother. She loved working in her flower garden, doing yard work and looking after loved ones.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 11:00AM in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment to follow in Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Puckett Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Virginia (202 Clark Street, Farmville), Centra Hospice (800 Oak Street, Farmville) or the Rainbow Room (Calvary Tabernacle, attention Allison Travis, 1502 4th Ave Ext, Farmville).
