Carl Blessing, Jr., age 99, of Farmville, Virginia, passed away on June 2, 2026.
He was born on December 24,1926 in Columbus, Indiana, to the late Carl Blessing, Sr. and Bertha Seward Blessing. Carl was married to Earlma Riegle Blessing, for 64 years, prior to her death in 2019. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Henry Blessing, of Columbus, Indiana.
After graduating from Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana, he was able to use the GI bill to graduate from Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana, and received his degree in Chemical Engineering. During this time, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmaceutical Assistant. Carl played football in high school and college. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. His passion in sports and involvement in community started in high school, when he was team manager and was nicknamed “Coach”.
His jobs took him to Indiana, Wisconsin, and Kentucky before landing him in Farmville, Virginia in 1966, where he was employed with Stackpole, (later Carbone) until his retirement. In his later years, he worked part time with the Town of Farmville as an Assistant.
Carl was an avid sports fan. If he wasn’t watching sports on tv, he was on the sidelines watching practices, and games of his son and grandsons at all of their sports events. He was very involved in civic organizations as a member of the Lion’s Club, Ruritan’s Club, and the Farmville Masonic Lodge #41. He was a devoted Husband, Father and Grand-Dad.
He is survived by his son Don (Susan), of Farmville, VA, grandson J Blessing, of Alexandria, VA, grandson Nick Blessing (Kelsey) of Reston, VA, along with 2 great-grandsons Wyatt and Jack Blessing.
He is also survived by step-grandson Will Martindale (Micki) of Berryville, VA, and 2 daughters Lucy and Annie, step-grandson Logan Jones of Lynchburg, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm, at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia, concluding at Westview Cemetery in Farmville.
In honor of Carl’s life, memorial contributions may go to Prince Edward County Rescue Squad.
