Darrell Raymond Hines
June 22, 1946 – August 19, 2025
Darrell Raymond Hines, age 79, passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of
his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 19, 2025.
Born on June 22, 1946, in Gordon, Nebraska, Darrell was the beloved son of Raymond
Hines and Pauline Brooks Hines. He proudly served his country in the United States
Navy from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War, working as a dental technician aboard
the USS Samuel Gompers. His honorable service earned him the National Defense
Service Medal.
On March 24, 1967, Darrell married the love of his life, Joan Caroline Douglass Hines
("Joanie"). Together, they shared a beautiful life until her passing on May 12, 2014.
Their marriage was a testament to faith, love, and partnership.
After his military service, Darrell dedicated 36 years to the U.S. Postal Service. In 2004,
he and Joanie, along with their sons and their families, relocated from Redding,
California to the Boise, Idaho area. Retirement did not slow Darrell down; he and Joanie
continued to serve the Lord through the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program
(MMAP), traveling in their RV to support ministries across the country for seven years.
Darrell had a deep love for travel and adventure, sharing memorable journeys with
Joanie and friends to Scotland, England, Hawaii, and many destinations across the
United States.
He is survived by his two sons, Bryan Hines (wife, Susan Hines) and Keith Hines (wife,
Timmie Hines); grandchildren Spencer Hines, Riley Hines, Cooper Hines, Kenzie Hines,
Eilidh Hines, and Kade Hines; two bonus grandchildren, Cody Nasburg and Kathyn
Nasburg; and four great-grandchildren. His legacy of faith and love lives on in each of
them.
Darrell will be remembered by all who knew him as a servant of the Lord, a devoted
husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a reflection of grace, kindness and
faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, Darrell would have wanted contributions to be made to Samaritan's
Purse, a ministry close to his heart. Donations can be made online at
samaritanspurse.org.
