It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Houston G. Hatcher, a beloved Husband,

Father, Grandfather and a devoted member of the Farmville community. Houston departed this world

on February 2, 2026 at the age of 94.

Born in Amherst, VA on January 29 th , 1932, Houston was the son of the late Dewey and Nellie

Hatcher. He was the loving spouse to Doris Wilkerson Hatcher for 73 years. He served in The National

Guard from 1949 – 1957. He worked at The Farmville Herald as a printer for 17 years and continued

to work in the same field at Longwood College for 23 years before retiring in 1993. When he worked at

Longwood College, he became a dedicated runner and participated in several local Marathons. He was

an avid Sports Enthusiast and played Men's Softball on many Championship Teams until his 50's.

Houston was known for coaching Minor League and Pony League Baseball in Farmville. He was a fan

of The Redskins and the Braves and enjoyed watching games. He also enjoyed going to games at

Hampden Sydney and Longwood Colleges. He was a Charter and active member of The Exchange

Club. Houston loved The Lord and was a Charter member of Heritage Baptist Church in Farmville for

49 years. After retirement, Houston enjoyed being outside and whenever possible, you could find him

on his lawnmower or tractor. He loved planting flowers and trees and just enjoyed sitting in his rocker

on his front porch. Houston loved his family and they were always his top priority. He always

believed in being responsible and honest with everyone. He appreciated his friends and was thankful

for the place they held in his life.

Houston is survived by his loving wife, Doris Hatcher, his daughter, Teresa Adams (Jimmy) of

Farmville; Grandsons, Jason Hatcher (Wendy) of Jacksonville, FL and Stephen Hatcher (Shilah) of

Chesapeake, VA. He was Great Grandfather to Tyler Hatcher (Lauren), Reaghan Gombert (Jeremy),

Kirkland Hatcher, Emerson Grace Hatcher and Chase Cummings. He was a Great-Great Grandfather to

Maddux and Amelia Hatcher. He was Uncle Houston to numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Garland Hatcher, his siblings,

Velma Woodard, Patricia Teller, Adna Yeatts, Reginald Hatcher and Chester Hendricks.

Houston will be dearly missed by all who knew him but his love, strength and memories will

live in our hearts forever. Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Baptist Church in Farmville on

Saturday, February 21 st at 11:00 am followed by Graveside at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice, VA.

Family will receive friends at Heritage Baptist Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the

graveside where lunch will be provided. Memorial Contributions can be made to Heritage Baptist

Church, 700 Milnwood Road, Farmville, VA.
