James (Jimmy) Peter Anema, Jr., 35, of Cullen Virginia, departed this life unexpectedly on May 9, 2026.

Jimmy was born on December 12, 1990, in Hackensack, New Jersey, to James Peter Anema, Sr. and Rita Karen (Muller) Anema. He was in a long term, 13+ year relationship with Lisa Lynn McIlvain.

Jimmy attended Prince Edward County Public Schools, in which he graduated from Prince Edward County High School. Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing many sports, including Baseball, Soccer, Bowling, and Basketball. He also was involved in Special Olympics sports such as Softball, Bowling and Basketball. He participated in Boy Scouts throughout his life, camping, learning and earning badges to achieve the honor of Eagle Scout. His career consisted of working at McDonald's, Taco Bell/Long John Silvers, Southside Community Hospital, Dollar Tree, Pizza World and the Woodland. He also worked one summer as a certified Life Guard at Boy Scout Camp in which he rescued a drowning boy. Jimmy was a huge sports fan. His favorite teams were the Seahawks, Mets and New Jersey Devils. He was also a dedicated fan of local College teams - Hampden-Sydney, Longwood, Liberty and UVA. Jimmy frequented sports games and watched sports games on TV including Football, Baseball, Soccer, Hockey and Basketball. For a majority of his life, he attended St. John's Lutheran Church, first in Passaic, New Jersey, then in Farmville, Virginia. He even got to carry the cross from church on Main Street to Milnwood Road when church moved. Jimmy was extremely loved, not only by his immediate family, extended family and friends, but also by his entire community. He was passionate about helping anyone in any way he could. Everyone whose life he has touched, has nothing but praises for him. He had a smile that could light up the room, and he was always smiling.

He is survived by his brother, Kyle Daniel Anema (Annie Ross Eplee) and his sister, Lauren Tana Anema (Adriel Concepcion). He had numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. Pre-deceased by maternal and paternal grandparents and aunts and uncles. A Memorial Service, in Celebration of his life, will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmville, Virginia on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 10:00 am. Memorial Service can be viewed on Zoom, through Church Website under Connect, then Worship.
