James Thurman Shanks, Jr.

James T. Shanks Jr. died on Saturday, July 26, 2025 peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born on February 16, 1948. He celebrated the 38th anniversary of his 39th birthday this year. He was born to James Thurman Shanks and Mary Hatcher Billbrough.

He was predeceased by his parents and special daughter-in-law Betty F. Shanks (Brian).

He is survived by his wife Faith D. Shanks of 14 years, his sons James Lee Shanks (Natalie) and Brian Shanks, his daughters Mary S. Mason (Leonard) and Shannon Shanks and his step-children Amy M. Wells (Jason), Samatha Turner (Ray) and Bryan Daulton.

He had ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is survived by a very special best friend Roger Lundleen (Deb), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also a very dear sister-in-law Edith Daulton.

James served 3 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He owned and operated Rod and Staff Welding for 38 years before retiring.

He drove the Penniless Drag Racing Car for many years. His favorite past times were drag racing, building street rods, golf, playing the upright base in Bluegrass music, riding motorcycles and camping. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 6:00PM – 9:00PM at Puckett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday 11:00AM at Concord Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens. Puckett Funeral Home is serving the family. www.puckettfh.com.
