Janie Elizabeth Coleman Simpson of Farmville was born August 5, 1925 in Prince Edward County and died June 19, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Morton Coleman and Kate Elizabeth Glenn Coleman.
Her husband, L Leslie Simpson, preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Pamplin High School and the M. M. Layne Business School. She was employed by Peoples National Bank of Farmville before moving to Amherst where she was bookkeeper and office manager for Burkeville Veneer Co of Amherst for 20 years. She returned to Farmville and worked and retired from Bank of America with 31 years of service.
She was a member of the Farmville Baptist Church and a past Worthy Matron of the Amherst Chapter No. 115, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sisters: Alice C Watson and Celia Jo C Young; and two brothers: Joel W Coleman and Frank Nat Coleman, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Melvin Benjamin Coleman, Lloyd Glenn Coleman, and Thomas Timothy (Tim) Coleman and three sisters; Rachel C Phaup, Iris C Ferguson, and Katrina C Young.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Glenn Memorial Baptist Church, Prospect or Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church, Prospect.
