Lcdr Calvin “Ray” Warner USN Ret., 91, of Dillwyn, passed away peacefully April 1, 2016 surrounded by his family and Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of 17-children he was born in LeLoup Kansas on August 17, 1924. He was a patriot, avid fly fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman, and farmer. Mr. Warner enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and retired with 27-years of service as Lieutenant Commander in 1970. He served in the USN during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and many other excursions. He was a member of the Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT’s), the precursor to the Navy Seals during most of his military career, and spent the later years of his military service developing programs and training what would become the Navy Seals of today. His love of God, Family, and Country, were paramount and had an impact on everyone who had the privilege to come into the presence of his company.
He is survived by his six children, Benny Warner of Buckingham, Larry Warner (Lynn) of Georgia, Gary Warner (Melanie) of Buckingham, Brenda W. Senger (Paul) of Buckingham, Barry Warner (Lisa) of Buckingham, Perry Warner of Buckingham, 3-brothers, 2- sisters, 19-grandchildren, 26-great grandchildren, and 5-great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Concord Baptist Church in Sheppard’s VA on Monday April 4 at 4:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Concord Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville on Sunday, April 2 2016 from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
