Lou Ellen Turpin Bagley

September 7, 1917 — June 20, 2016

Lou “Mimi” Turpin Bagley
Born on September 7, 1917, in Rising Star, TX, Lou Turpin Bagley died on June 20, 2016, in Farmville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eunice Amanda Sudderth Turpin and Grover Cleveland Turpin, four siblings and her husband Jewell Lee Bagley. As an 8-year-old child, she moved with her family from “deep in the heart of Texas” to the “plains of Texas.” She was salutatorian of the 1935 class of Ropesville High School, Ropesville, Texas. She married her best friend and high school sweetheart, Jewell L. Bagley, in 1936.
During World War II, she worked as a meter reader with Lubbock Natural Gas Company while J.L. was stationed in the Philippines with the U.S. Army Air Force. Later, she worked as a lab technician in the Cotton Pathology Lab at Texas A & M Agricultural Experimental Station in Lubbock, Texas. In 1989, she and J.L. moved to Farmville, VA, to be near their family. They were members of Heritage Baptist Church, and she was involved with the quilting group at Heritage for many years. Most importantly, she was a reflection of God’s love and a wonderful role model as wife, mother, and grandparent.
Mimi ---as she is affectionately called by family and friends--- is survived by two daughters: Linda Reid (the late Donald R. Reid) of Farmville, VA, and G. LuAnne O’Neill (Robert O’Neill) of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren: Leigh A. Reid of Boone, NC, Roland “Rollie” R. Reid of Farmville, VA, Kristen “Kris” O’Neill of Chesapeake, VA, Bryan P. O’Neill of Denver, CO, and Alexander R. Reid of Appomattox, VA; six great-grandchildren: Emma L. Tzotschew, Ivan A. Tzotschew, Freyja L. Tzotschew, Clara L. Tzotschew, Ada L. Tzotschew, and Ursa L. Tzotschew, all of Boone, NC.
Funeral services will be held at Puckett Funeral Chapel on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church or Special Olympics.
