Mary Benton Wilson**

*September 22, 1933 - December 18, 2025*

Mary Benton Wilson, 92, of Cullen, Virginia, peacefully passed away on December 18,

2025. Born in Ruffin, South Carolina, Mary lived a life marked by service, adventure,

and unwavering devotion to her community and family.

After completing her education at Patrick Henry Community College, Mary dedicated

her career to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant with the Martinsville VA

health Department, where she retired after years of compassionate service. Her

commitment to community extended through her lifelong membership in the American

Legion Auxiliary, where she traveled throughout the Commonwealth alongside her

husband Charles during his tenure as Department Commander.

Mary's generous spirit shone through her volunteer work with Virginia Girls State, where

she collected information from schools across the region and served at the annual

program. Her dedication to nurturing young women was recognized when she was

honored as Mother of the Year in Martinsville.

A true explorer at heart, Mary distinguished herself by visiting all 50 states and traveling

extensively around the world. Known for her humble kindness and gentle wisdom, she

often reflected life's complexities with her characteristic phrase, "I see."

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents and six siblings. She is survived

by her daughter Maria Stintzcum of Charlotte Courthouse, son Michael and his spouse

Bill Wilson of Cullen, and granddaughter, Alexandra Stintzcum of Chesterfield.
