Phillip Andrew Bailey, Sr. passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on February 24, 1940, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to the late Samuel and Valeria Phillips Bailey. He was married to Anita Trear Bailey for 62 years and they had 3 children. Phil attended Worsham School and Southside Virginia Community College. He was a charter member of` Heritage Baptist Church, sang in the choir and was an ordained deacon. Phil worked at Longwood College as a maintenance foreman, painter and bus driver. He retired in 1995 after 38 years. He also had 2 painting businesses. Phil served as a reserve deputy for the Prince Edward Sheriff’s Department for several years. For 11 years, Phil served his country in the US Army and National Guard. In 1965, Phil joined the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member, an officer and became a Life member of the organization. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, the Dallas Cowboys and classic cars. He is survived by his wife, Anita Bailey, daughters Terri Bailey and Kathi Christian and son Buddy Bailey (Heidi), grandchildren Jeffrey Christian (Elizabeth), Amber Traylor (Joshua), Noah Christian (Chelsea), Tripp Bailey, Travis Christian (Emma) and Samuel Christian (Fatima). Also, his great-grandchildren Marilyn, LJ and Harrison Traylor and Huntleigh Christian. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Gillispie and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers Vernon and Kenneth Bailey and sisters Ethel Inge, Glennia Waid, Marie Jamerson and Polly Davis.
Funeral services will be held at Puckett Funeral Home on July 30, 2026 at 2:00p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department or the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad.
