Ruth Layne Ferguson of Farmville, Virginia passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 peacefully at the Woodland Watson Center surrounded by loving family and care takers. She was born in Cullen, VA on Apr1l 4, 1927 to the late Spencer Hatcher Layne and Marion Allen Layne. She was well known for her service to the Farmville Baptist Church and her hundreds of clients for over 60 years that she serviced as a cosmetologist.
She graduated from Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte County Virginia in 1946. She had a lifelong love of music and dancing that began as a teenager when she sang on the radio with her sister Florence and other family members. She took great joy in cooking for her family, especially on holidays.
She is survived by her son Charles Wayne Ferguson and son-in-law Robert Reeves of Amherst, VA, daughter Darlene Ferguson Bratcher and son-in-law Richard Bratcher of Farmville, VA, her granddaughter by marriage Katie Bratcher Rhine and husband Jason Rhine, and her great-granddaughter Maelyn Renee Rhine of Orlando, Fla., special friend and care taker Barbara Hunter, and Ruth’s sister Gloria who was a constant companion.
Surviving brothers and sisters: Floyd Layne (Aggie) of Mill Hall, PA, Billy Layne of Victoria, VA, Ted Layne (Georgia) of Farmville, VA, Norman Layne (Ida), Cullen VA, Nelson Layne (Loretta) of Dillwyn, VA, Virginia Frangowlakis of Salem, VA, Roberta Willis (Charlie) of St. Paul, VA, and Gloria Adams (Kendall) of Cullen, VA. Also: Sister-in-law, Annette Layne of Farmville, Va. And Linda Layne of Rustburg, VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband Charles Oscar Ferguson, brothers Carol Layne, Elbert Layne, Monroe Layne, Alvan Lane, Spencer Hatcher Layne, Jr. Oliver Layne, Edward Layne, and sister Florence Layne Pierce.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night September 13, 2015 at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, VA. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 14th 2015 at Farmville Baptist Church located at 132 N. Main street in Farmville, VA. Interment to follow at Spring Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Darlington Heights, VA.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Woodland Facilities, Lynchburg General Hospital Comfort Care Center, and the 7 Hills Hospice Center for providing so much love and compassion to Ruth and her family during her final days.
