Farmville

Listen to Obituary

Sammy Lee Ferguson of Farmville, Virginia celebrated his 74 th birthday by joining the Lord and his brothers in heaven. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather who left this world surrounded by the love of his family. He and his wife, Gloria, were together for 26 years and he was the owner of C&F Mechanical Heating and Plumbing for over 40 years.

Sammy adored his daughters, Amy Helton (Mike), Dawn Williams (Bobby), and Kari Rockwell (Brandon); and stepdaughters, Casey (Dane) and Courtney (Kellyn). Nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and showing up for their games, recitals, and special moments. He was their biggest fan and rarely missed an event. He had a deep love for music, played in several bands through the years, was an avid drummer, and wrote and sang songs of which several were played on the radio. You could find him and Gloria line dancing and Sammy singing Karaoke on many Saturday nights. He was a member of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church and used his musical talent to serve the Lord by playing drums at The Remnant Church. His sudden death brings sadness but also rejoicing in knowing he is at peace with the Lord.

His greatest gift was making those around him laugh, truly belly-laugh, with his uncanny and unique way of listening intently -words were his game - and with quick-wit he could turn any situation into a funny moment. His final words were, “I feel loopy.” Sammy was the son of Sam and Mary Jane Ferguson and grew up in Prospect. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joe Mitchell, John Mitchell, and Donald Ferguson. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his sister, Debra Ferguson Goodrich; the mother of his daughters, Cinda Ferguson Schmidt; and  a plethora of nieces and nephews spread from Virginia to Louisiana who loved him dearly.
