William "Bill" Elliott Atkinson Sr.

William Elliott “Bill” Atkinson Sr. 89 of Farmville, VA passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016.He was a retired Sanitarian in Buckingham, and served in Cumberland, Appomattox and Prince Edward Counties. He is a native of Prince Edward, raised on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College graduated from Worsham High School class of 1944, attended Hampden- Sydney College and graduated from V.P.I.
He raised a few cattle in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife Nevada Atkinson of Lunenburg Co., his daughter Sallie A. Mowbray (Freddie), sons Elliott Atkinson (Marjorie), Allen “Mule” Atkinson and friend Letha all of Buckingham County a granddaughter Maggie Campbell of Roanoke, VA. He is also survived by the mother of his children Nora Atkinson of Buckingham and a sister Margaret Esther Jerome of Bridgewater.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Tulane Atkinson, mother Esther Thomas Atkinson and a brother P. Tulane Atkinson Jr.
He could not have made it through the past few years with out his dear friends, like family, Joe and Frances Huddleston.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00AM in College Church Hampden Sydney. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at College Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Esther Thomas Atkinson Museum of Hampden Sydney College.
