Zoa "Marie" Cobb Self

Zoa “Marie” Cobb Self 95 of Farmville, VA passed away on June 21, 2026. She was born on June 1, 1931 6 miles outside of Scottsville on the family farm. Her mother died when she was 1 year and 2 months old and her dad raised her in the fields, setting her out by the rows while he plowed. She was 12 years old when her last sibling left home so a neighbor sent over his cook to teach her how to cook. She learned to sew, raise flowers and was a terrific gardner. She married Carl P. Banton and was happily married 22 years until his death. She later married Lumford Self and was married for 33 years.

She is survived by her son Steven C. Banton (Edna Marie Nees Banton) and 1 granddaughter Meghan E. Banton.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Mell Furnari, Lillian English and Louise Moses, and 2 brothers Thomas Cobb and Allen Cobb.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00AM in the Appomattox PE Church with a graveside service to follow starting at 12:00Noon. Puckett Funeral Home is serving the family. www.puckettfh.com.
