Obituary for Julia Jean Bransford Cox

Julia (Julie) Jean Bransford Cox, 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, at her home in Farmville.
Julie was born on June 6, 1923 in Hinton, WV, the second of two daughters born to Robert Earl Bransford and Florence Fredeking Bransford. In 1943, she met James (Jimmie) Robert Cox, of Hinton, WV, who became the love of her life.
On March 6, 1944, Julie and Jimmie were married in Burlington, VT, where Jimmie was in Officer Candidates training at the University of Vermont. They had three children together.
Julie was a member of the Farmville United Methodist Church and active in the Cumberland County Historical Society and the Huguenot Society, Founders of the Manakin Colony of Virginia.
Julie was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to caring for her family, home, and her Boston Terriers. She developed an early interest in classical music and was very artistic, enjoying especially her needle work. She was a life-long learner and active genealogist.
Julie was a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society and presented lectures to the Societys Genealogical Group and the Farmville Historical Society on genealogical research. She served as Historian of the Huguenot Society. In the 1990s, Julie headed the WPA Project Committee of the Cumberland County Historical Society, a two-year survey of homes, cemeteries, and other buildings, to update records begun in the 1930s by the U.S. Governments WPA Historical Inventory Project.
Julie was predeceased in death by her husband of 64 years, her parents and older sister Virginia Hildegard Bransford. She is survived by her three children, James Robert Cox, Jr. and wife Julia Turbiville Wood of Chapel Hill, NC; Virginia Lee Cox McDonald, of Cartersville, VA; Allan Bransford Cox and wife Gretchen Bingman of Helena, Montana; Kate McDonald Robinson and husband Jim Robinson of Bethesda, MD; grandson Keenan Bingman Cox; and great-grandchildren, Martha Price Robinson, Alexandra Adams Robinson, and James Kane Robinson, IV.
Donations in Julies honor may be made to the Church Roof Memorial Fund, Farmville United Methodist Church or a charitable organization of ones choosing.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2011 in Farmville United Methodist Church with internment in Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, will be in charge of arrangements.
