Obituary for Alice Guinn Spillman
Alice Gunn Spillman, “Nana”, age 90, went to be with Jesus, Sunday, November 3, 2019. Alice was born January 25, 1929 in Flag Pond, TN to Dennis and Adel Gunn. She grew up in a busy home with an older brother, Jack, and two younger sisters, Pauline and Kathryn. Alice moved to Virginia where she met the love of her life, Charles Spillman and raised her loving family. She then became an active member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Alice worked at Leggett Department Store until her youngest child started school and her grandchildren were born. She then began babysitting and providing care, for not only her grandchildren, but countless others. Nana has touched the lives of so many people at ball games, local events, church and in her home. She never knew a stranger. Nana’s care, love, support, advice, hot meals and good laughs will be remembered and we hope instilled in all of us. Alice “Nana” is survived by two sons, Terry, Sr., (Sandy) and Scotty; a daughter Susan Pembelton (Ray) and a daughter-in-law Barbara; 2 sisters Pauline Shores (Wilson), Katherine Lockner, a sister in law Nevada Guinn,10 grandchildren, Billy, Jr. (Kim), Charlie (Tiffany), Melanie Escobar (Pete), Lara Irving (Joe), Stephanie Baldwin (Ben), Mark (Danielle), TW, Drew, Justin (Kaysi) and Matthew Pembelton. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her husband Charles, three children, Virginia, Billy, Sr. and Denny and a granddaughter Melissa. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 11 a.m in Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1835 Cumberland Road, Farmville, VA 23901.
